V-Tent: An Ecofriendly Car Charging and Protection Unit

Designing a Sustainable Solution for Urban Environments

V-Tent is an innovative parking system designed by Hakan Gürsu that offers both protection and charging capabilities for vehicles. This collapsible canopy can be used in personal and public parking areas, providing a safe space for electric cars. By preventing weather side-effects and acting as a theft deterrent, V-Tent not only extends the lifespan of vehicles but also contributes to a sustainable urban environment.

One of the key features of V-Tent is its ability to shield vehicles from environmental conditions. Acting as a canopy, it protects cars from sun heat, snow, and other weather-related damages. This physical protection ensures that vehicles remain in optimal condition, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and repairs.

In addition to its protective function, V-Tent also serves as a precaution against theft. The structural elements of the design act as barriers, making it difficult for unauthorized individuals to access the vehicle. This added security feature provides peace of mind to car owners, especially in public parking areas.

When used in public parking lots, V-Tent operates as a space-saving solution that runs on a fee-based system. Users can easily select their desired parking period and make payment using a card. The system also provides an estimated charging time, allowing drivers to plan their activities accordingly. With the convenience of smartphone applications, users can remotely access the system interface and receive updates on availability and charge percentage through the band light on V-Tent.

One of the standout features of V-Tent is its use of solar power. The design incorporates flexible solar panels that are integrated into the canopy. These panels, with a thickness of only 2 millimeters, can generate 5kW of energy in standard test conditions and 4.5 kW in nominal operating cell temperature. In daylight conditions, V-Tent can gather enough energy to charge a Toyota Prius battery, which requires 2.3 kW and 10 amperes, in approximately 3 hours.

The energy produced by V-Tent's solar panels can be utilized for various urban applications, such as lighting. This allows individual users to benefit from carbon-free energy for their own needs, contributing to a greener and more sustainable lifestyle.

V-Tent, with its modern and high-tech design, seamlessly blends into the contemporary urban context. The collapsible structure ensures that it only appears when in use, minimizing visual complexity. The canopy is made of a laminated multi-layered textile that holds the flexible solar panels. The inner layer is covered with reflective material, while the middle layer features micro ventilation tubes to regulate temperature and prevent excessive heat buildup.

Recognized for its outstanding innovation and expertise, V-Tent was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Energy Products, Projects, and Devices Design category in 2013. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the design's technical excellence and artistic skill, as well as its ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder.

With V-Tent, Hakan Gürsu and his team, including assistant designer Eren Şenyurt, have created a groundbreaking solution that combines car protection, charging capabilities, and sustainability. This design not only addresses the needs of electric car owners but also contributes to a more environmentally friendly future.
